To fix the error 'Cannot create a server using the selected type' run the following:
cd ~/workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.runtime/.settings/
rm org.eclipse.jst.server.tomcat.core.prefs
rm org.eclipse.wst.server.core.prefs
